Screenplay
I have been developing a pilot for a comedy series over the past year. The series follows the many personalities working in a restaurant, told through a mockumentary style format. Having worked in the food industry for over five years, I drew much of my inspiration from the unpredictable and often hilarious situations we found ourselves in on a daily basis.
Beyond the pilot itself, I have mapped out a 10-episode season, developed the overarching story arcs and characters, and have even begun the process of setting up a crowdfunding account for the production of the pilot.
Brand Story
I developed this brand concept as an exercise in creative and professional writing. I wanted to focus on how a simple idea can be translated into a cohesive brand identity. Common Ground Coffee Co. was built around the idea that coffee is often less about the drink itself, rather, more about the conversations, connections, and moments that happen around it.
Beyond the initial brand story, I developed supporting social media captions, website copy, and a 30-second advertising concept to further establish the brand’s voice and messaging. Through each piece, I focused on creating a consistent identity while finding different ways to connect with the intended audience through relatable and human-centered storytelling.
Short Story
I wrote this short story centered around grief, complicated family relationships, and the difficulty of reconciling unresolved emotions after the loss of a parent. The story follows Alex as she helps her mother sort through her late father’s belongings, confronting the complicated feelings she has carried about their estranged relationship.
The story explores themes of grief, forgiveness, family, and the ways people can change and grow even when we don’t get the opportunity to see that change firsthand. I lost my father, and while we did not have a strained relationship, I was able to draw from my own experience of grief and loss when writing the story. The story ultimately examines the possibility of finding closure in unexpected places and recognizing that grief doesn’t always look the way we expect it to.
